'80s and 90's Music

I’m a massive fan of the ’80s and ’90s. The Music, the styles, and the looks were all better back then. I love listening to this type of Music because it takes me back to a time when everything was much more fun than it is today.

I played Pop music quiz questions at a party last weekend, and everyone had a blast. The Music brought back so many memories for people, and it was a great way to get people talking.

If you agree with me, read on as we explore some reasons why that might be.

The Music was Better

If you were an 80’s or 90’s kid, then you know that Music was just better. The Music was more diverse, innovative, and emotional. It was exciting, fun, social, and danceable. There were many reasons why it stood out from today’s Music:

  • Fewer artists were dominating the charts
  • More genres were being played on the radio (i.e., rock)
  • It wasn’t all about sex and drugs

The Styles were Better

The styles of the 80s and 90s were more creative, colorful, fun, comfortable, relaxed, expressive, and unique than what we see today.

If you look at the styles currently worn by people in their 20s through 40s, it’s mostly black or gray with a slight variation of blue jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies. These are not bad, but they’re pretty dull. However, looking back at the 80s and 90s, you’ll see much more diversity in style with bright colors like neon green or purple paired with dark blue jeans and bold patterns like plaid or stripes on shirts.

Shoes were made out of leather, such as Converse All-Stars sneakers, which were popular among teens because they looked cool but also served their purpose for everyday activities like walking around town or going to school (significantly when your feet hurt). Shoes today are mostly made out of plastic, making them cheaper but less durable, so if your kid wears these shoes outside playing sports all day long, chances are good that those shoes will be destroyed by dinnertime.

The Looks were Better

The clothing was more outrageous, and it wasn’t just a trend, the attention to detail and the care that went into making these outfits made for some fantastic looks.

People were more expressive about what they wore. They weren’t afraid to color outside the lines or break free from convention. Whether wearing colorful shoes or a flamboyant hat, people were expressing themselves in ways we don’t see as much today.

The confidence of the 80s/90s was so infectious. People were confident in who they were and how they wanted to express themselves through their clothing choices, and that attitude is something that we should all strive for today.

Music Videos were More Creative and Stylish

The music video is a powerful medium. Many people don’t realize that the art and creativity of music videos were at their peak during the 80s and 90s. This meant that not only were you listening to great songs, but you were also enjoying them in style. From the 1980s to today, we’ve seen a decline in music videos being stylish and exciting. The fact is: there’s no better way than watching some awesome videos from this era.

The style of music videos from decades past is more entertaining than what we see today – which often feature bland performances with bad camera work and lame editing techniques (or none at all). After all – it’s no secret that many modern artists want their products up on YouTube as quickly as possible rather than putting any effort into making something extraordinary; they want views on their channel to get paid by advertising dollars.

People had more Fun with Music Back Then.

It’s not just the Music that was better. People were more fun in the 80s and 90s. They were more open, expressive, and creative. You don’t see people dancing like crazy or singing along with their favorite songs like you used to back in those days.

People were also much more willing to make mistakes. Today we are so afraid of failure that we rarely take any risks, especially when it comes to our careers or personal lives. People took considerable risks in the 80s and 90s because they weren’t afraid of failing.

It makes me sad when I think about how today’s generation is missing out on everything that made these decades so great: good Music, fun times with friends/family…

So, whether you’re an 80’s or 90’s fan, we can all agree that Music back in these decades was the best. So, if you are looking for ways to relive your youth and bring back memories from those good old days, check out this list of songs below.
